Home Health, Southern NE Rehab now offering VitalStim Therapy for dysphagia
CharterCARE Home Health and Southern New England Rehabilitation Center are now offering VitalStim Therapy, a safe and effective treatment for patients with difficulty swallowing, also known as dysphagia. The VitalStim Therapy System is a non-invasive therapy using electrodes placed on the swallowing musculature to administer Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES). This FDA-cleared treatment approach successfully combines NMES and traditional dysphagia techniques. VitalStim increases muscle strength, accelerates cortical reorganization and increases the effectiveness of traditional swallowing exercise therapy.
Patients participating in VitalStim treatment often have dysphagia due to stroke, brain injury, or neurological diseases. This therapy is now available through Home Health, inpatient acute rehabilitation, and outpatient sites. To learn more, contact Jessica at 456-6756.
