Roger Williams again recognized for excellence with “Own The Bone” designation

Roger Williams Medical Center is again in select company with its recognition as a “Star Performer” by the American Orthopaedic Association’s fracture program called “Own The Bone.” This program is a national post-fracture, systems-based fragility fracture initiative created by the American Orthopaedic Association. “Star Performer” institutions are recognized for at least 75% compliance on 5 of the 10 recommended measures over the last year. Roger Williams is the only hospital in Rhode Island to hold the “Own The Bone’ designation, which it initially received in 2013.

Team members who were integral in launching and maintaining this program include Lynn Leahey, RN, Deb Lasorsa, RN, Nancy Fogarty, Joanne Dooley, RN, Dr. Christopher Chihlas, and Dr. Joseph Tucci, who is the new physician champion for this effort. Dr. Tucci is Director, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism and Director, Bone and Mineral Unit at Roger Williams. An estimated 9 million American adults have osteoperosis but most go undiagnosed and untreated. Up to 50% of women and 25% of men will sustain fragility fractures in their lifetime. Roger Williams is recognized as one of the hospitals that is an “Own the Bone Star Performer” in a full page spread in the US News & World Report 2017 Best Hospitals issue.
