Blackstone Valley Surgicare was one of the first freestanding outpatient surgical facilities in Rhode Island. It was founded by Paul Healey, MD on School Street in Pawtucket in April of 1976. Since that time the facility has gone through many changes. It has brought on new specialties and added new technology through the years to maintain its cutting edge services to the community. Blackstone Valley has been the leader in outpatient services for over thirty years and has maintained its commitment to offer high quality low cost outpatient surgical services to the Rhode Island Community.
In October of 2003 the facility was granted a relocation by the Department of Health and was moved to its present site in Johnston. Although no longer in the Blackstone Valley it was decided to keep the name to preserve the long standing presence in the community.
In 2016 BVS was acquired by CharterCARE Health Partners, a regional coordinated care health system.
