Health Sciences Library

The Health Sciences Library supports excellence in the clinical, educational, research, and administrative functions of the Medical Center through the acquisition, organization, and dissemination of information.

The library assures access to the most current and evidence-based biomedical and clinical resources and provides services in an environment that promotes effective research and study. 

Access

Library services and materials are accessible to all affiliates of Roger Williams Medical Center and CharterCARE Health Partners. This includes all employees, physicians, students, and all those on clinical rotation at the medical center. Our electronic journal holdings are listed through EBSCO Full-Text Finder, and our holdings, along with the holdings of several other hospitals in RI, are also listed in the Hospital Libraries of Rhode Island online public access catalog, published by Library World. Services

As members of the Association of RI Health Sciences Libraries, (ARIHSL), and the Library of RI Network, (LORI), we assist and cooperate with medical libraries as well as all other types of libraries by exchanging and sharing information and materials throughout the state of RI and beyond,  through interlibrary loan. Further, as members of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, (NN/LM), we participate in both DOCLINE and LoansomeDoc – NLM’s interlibrary loan and document delivery systems. In addition, the following services are provided by a qualified medical librarian and are available by email, fax, mail, telephone, or in-person:

  • Answer reference questions
  • Conduct literature searches
  • Assist /Train in the use of print & electronic resources/databases
  • Advice on research methods
  • Obtain document delivery & Inter-Library loans
  • Photocopy, printing, and fax services
  • Availability of 5 public Internet-accessible PC workstations

Hours

The library is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The librarian is available:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday    8am -- 4pm,
  • Wednesday                                      12pm -- 4pm
  • Friday                                                  8 am -- 12 pm
