Online Nursing Resources

The following professional and specialty organizations provide our nurses with a wide variety of resources and reference materials. They also offer opportunities for professional and social interaction with fellow nurses.

American Nurses Association   

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is a full-service professional organization representing the nation's 2.6 million Registered Nurses. ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying Congress and regulatory agencies on healthcare issues affecting nursing and the public.

Rhode Island State Nurses Association  

A constituent of the ANA, is the authority on matters concerning the profession of nursing in the state of Rhode Island. RISNA is dedicated to the promotion, advancement, and protection of nursing which improves the overall quality of healthcare in the state.

Sigma Theta Tau  

Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society of Nursing, provides leadership and scholarship in practice, education, and research to enhance the health of all people. The organization supports the learning and professional development of members, who strive to improve nursing care worldwide. RI Black Nurses Association 

The local chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, RI BNA serves as a forum for collective action to investigate, define, and determine what the healthcare needs of African-Americans and other minorities are in the state.

Association of periOperative Registered Nurses 

AORN is the professional organization of perioperative registered nurses that supports registered nurses in achieving optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures. The leader and expert on patient safety in surgical settings.

National Association of Orthopedic Nurses  

The National Association of Orthopedic Nurses (NAON) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization that helps enhance the lives and careers of Orthopedic Nurses. Designed to promote the highest standards of nursing practice by educating its practitioners, promoting research, and encouraging effective communication between orthopedic nurses and other groups.

Oncology Nursing Society  

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is a professional organization of more than 30,000 registered nurses and other healthcare providers dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research, and administration in oncology nursing. It's also the largest professional oncology association in the world.

Emergency Nurses Association   

Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) is the specialty nursing association for emergency nursing and emergency care professionals. ENA's mission is to provide leadership through an international, action-oriented organization ready to support the profession with access to the latest scientific information and research, networking opportunities, and contact with governmental, academic, and professional resources.

The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates  

The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) is a professional organization of nurses and associates dedicated to the safe and effective practice of gastroenterology and endoscopy nursing. SGNA carries out its mission by, advancing the science and practice of gastroenterology and endoscopy nursing through education, research, advocacy, and collaboration, and by promoting the professional development of its members in an atmosphere of mutual support.

American Association of Critical-Care Nurses  

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) is the largest specialty nursing organization, with more than 65,000 members worldwide. The association is dedicated to providing members with the knowledge and resources necessary to provide optimal care to critically ill patients. Offering a range of published materials and journals, AACN has helped nurses who care for patients with complex problems stay up-to-date with medical and technology advancements.
