Laboratory Services

Laboratory tests play a critical role in ensuring your diagnosis is accurate and your treatment is appropriate. Our laboratory network offers unmatched expertise and experience. Our staff is comprised of dedicated professionals whose primary goal is to provide accurate and timely analysis to the caregiver and to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient.

We accept all insurances with the exception of Blue Chip Senior. For Pathology services, we accept all insurances. If you have any specific customer service questions, please call us at (401) 456-3600.

Our Primary Reference Laboratory

 

We utilize Mayo Medical Laboratories for its primary esoteric testing needs. Mayo Medical Laboratories, the reference laboratory for Mayo Clinic, is a distinctive leader in the field of esoteric testing and offers consultations with its physicians and scientists. This collaboration strengthens our efforts to provide exceptional laboratory services and patient care to the regions we serve.

 

All of our staff pathologists are board certified in Anatomic Pathology and have completed fellowships at internationally renowned institutions. Each of our pathologists sub-specializes in areas like Hematopathology, Dermatopathology, Uropathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Cytology and Surgical Pathology. In addition, our pathologists are dedicated academics, working as adjunct professors and heading fellowship programs through the Boston University School of Medicine. Our pathologists and their sub-specialties are as follows:

 

Mirela Stancu, M.D, Pathologist-in-Chief

Gastrointestinal Pathology

Dr. Stancu is a graduate of Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania, Dr. Stancu completed her residency at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She completed fellowships in Gastrointestinal Pathology at Boston University, Hematopathology at Harvard University Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Oncologic Surgical Pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Dr. Stancu is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology, and specialized in Gastrointestinal, Surgical and Clinical Pathology

 

Catherine Breen, MD, MPH

Dermatopathology

A graduate of Emory University and Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Breen completed her residency at Brown University and her fellowship at Roger Williams/Boston University. Dr. Breen is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well Dermatopathology. Her area of specialty is in Dermatopathology and Surgical Pathology.

 

Olga K. Weinberg, MD

Hematopathology

A graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN, Dr. Weinberg completed her residency and fellowships at Stanford University in Pal Alto, CA. She is board certified in Hematopathology and Anatomic Pathology.

 

Joseph Sweeney, MD

Transfusion Medicine

A graduate of the University College of Medicine in Galway, Ireland, Dr. Sweeney completed his residency at Bronx Municipal Hospital, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY and his fellowship in Medical Oncology at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, NY. He is board-certified in Blood Banking.

 

Xiaoping Zhou, MD

Gastrointestinal Pathology

A graduate of Second Military Medical University in Shanghai, China, Dr. Zhou completed his residency and fellowship at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, OH. Dr. Zhou is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and specializes in Gastrointestinal and Surgical Pathology.

 

Eric Yulong Han, MD

Cytopathology 

A graduate of Wuhan Tongji Medical University in China, Dr. Han completed his residency at New York University School of Medicine and his fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and specializes in Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology.

 

Selina Cortez, MD

Neuropathology

Dr. Cortez is a graduate of University of the Philippines Medical School, completed Anatomic/Clinical Pathology residency at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University. She then completed a Neuropathology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Boston Children's Hospital, affiliated with Harvard University Medical School. She is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Neuropathology, and specializes in Surgical Pathology and Neuropathology.

 

Bassam Aswad, MD

Cytopathology

A graduate of the American University of Beirut, Dr. Aswad completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine, and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University School of Medicine, where he remained on Staff for over 20 years, practicing and teaching general Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, Immunohistochemistry, with a subspecialty focus on Pulmonary Pathology. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
