The Sleep Center provides sleep testing as well as out-patient consultations for patients with sleep related complaints such as snoring, daytime fatigue, fragmented sleep, insomnia and sleep apnea. Sleep tests include overnight attended in-center polysomnography, home sleep apnea testing and multiple sleep latency testing. A team of highly experienced registered polysomnography technologists perform the testing and analyze the data. By successfully completing the re-accreditation process and upholding the standards of accreditation, the RWMC Sleep Disorders Center has shown its dedication to the advancement of the field. Since 1977, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Standards for Accreditation have been the gold standard by which the medical community and the public evaluate sleep medicine facilities. Achieving AASM accreditation demonstrates a sleep medicine provider’s commitment to high quality, patient-centered care through adherence to these standards. The RWMC Sleep Center has been continuously accredited since 2009.

“This is another example of our commitment to provide specialty services that follow industry best practices,” said Jeffrey Liebman, CharterCARE CEO, parent company of Roger Williams Medical Center. “This is validation once again of the exceptional clinical leadership and patient care this sleep program has provided for more than 10 years.” Dr. F. Dennis McCool, ABIM, board certified in Sleep Medicine, is Medical Director of the Sleep Disorder Center, which is located at 1539 Atwood Avenue, Johnston RI.

The Sleep Center also just completed an unannounced 1.5 day DOH/CMS survey conducted by three surveyors, which went very well.

The surveys were very complimentary in general including:

  • Cleanliness of the center
  • The knowledge of the staff and stated that they learned a lot about sleep medicine
  • Thery reviewed many charts and found great patient care documentation
  • Impressed on the overall patient flow and patient care
  • They were very focused on the Patient Referral Form and its completeness and patient focused.
  • They commented on great signage on what to do in the event of an emergency.
