Stroke Center

When a stroke hits, every moment counts. That is why you want to be seen by medical professionals who quickly recognize the symptoms of stroke and then deliver the most timely care possible.

The long-lasting effects of a stroke can depend on how quickly treatment is delivered. Roger Williams follows clinically recognized best practices to fast track patients with stroke symptoms so doctors and staff can begin brain saving treatments immediately. Our expertise in stroke care is recognized by both The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association.

If you or a loved one are among the 700,000 people who suffer a stroke each year, our team of experts is here to work collaboratively to care for you. Our stroke team includes emergency department staff, rehabilitation team, nurses, CT scan department, lab, pharmacy and dietary experts who come together to foster better outcomes for those who have had a stroke.

It is not just the staff that makes our stroke care special. Roger Williams has specifically designated hospital beds where acute stroke patients receive care. Our staff is dedicated to teaching patients how to manage their risk factors while still in the hospital. You can leave the hospital better equipped to prevent another stroke from ever occurring.

Roger Williams was certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center in 2011 and was re-certified in 2013. We were first recognized as a Stroke Center through the American Heart Association’s "Get With The Guidelines" program, which ensures consistent care for cardiac and stroke patients according to guidelines and recommendations from The American Heart Association and The American Stroke Association.

"By complying with the "Get With The Guidelines" program, our caregivers are combining the latest evidence-based guidelines with immediate access to clinical support to ensure the best possible care," said Elaine Jones, MD, neurologist and physician champion behind the Stroke Center designation.

Our specialized training, dedicated facilities, and committed staff make Roger Williams a place where you can feel comfortable receiving the best in stroke care.
