Summer can be a great opportunity to focus on making healthy lifestyle changes. With warm weather comes more opportunity for outdoor activities, exercise and gatherings. However, there are times where it can be just as easy to fall out of your routine. Here are some simple tips you can use this summer to stay on track with your weight loss journey.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is key in the summertime, but also to any weight loss regimen. When you’re exercising, or spending the day at the beach, it’s important to keep your electrolytes and hydration up to avoid sunstroke and dehydration.

Aside from staying hydrated, drinking plenty of water can help you feel satiated. Many people tend to snack when they’re bored which can result in junk food cravings. Instead of reaching for chips or sweets, try to keep plenty of fruits and vegetables around to satisfy those crunchy and sweet cravings. Water-filled fruits and vegetables such as watermelon, cucumber, and zucchini are not only packed with important vitamins and minerals, but they can also help you stay hydrated and feel full due to the high water content.

Stay Active

Summer is a great time to get active and enjoy the outdoors by hiking, biking, swimming, or trying a new activity. Keeping a routine exercise plan is a crucial step to a weight loss journey, but it can be beneficial to mix up your routine once and a while. Adding new activities or having a variety of exercises can help keep you motivated while still keeping you in your routine.

Take advantage of the nice weather and research some trails or parks in your area to change up the scenery of your workouts and explore new places.

Snack Smarter

whether you’re just starting your weight loss journey or are in the process, it’s likely you are aware of the importance of avoiding junk food. While everything in moderation is a good thing, swapping out some processed snacks with healthier options allows you to enjoy snacking without sacrificing a healthy diet.

Summertime is also a great time to take advantage of fresh produce and up your intake of fruits and veggies by grilling, making smoothies or popsicles. Farmers' markets are a great way to get an abundance of seasonal foods and get creative with what you buy; it’s also a great way to support local businesses.

Set Yourself up for Success

Diet and exercise are the basics of weight loss, but there are other factors that can affect the success of your weight loss journey. Sleep and stress can make it harder to lose weight and potentially enable you to fall back on your progress. Getting a good night’s sleep and having a well-balanced breakfast is a great way to start the day off on the right foot and help achieve your goals for the day.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can set yourself up for a successful weight loss journey this summer.
