Emergency Services

In the event of urgent medical cases or accidents such as heart attacks, drug overdoses, or punctured lungs, immediate treatment can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.

Because there are so many types of emergency cases, so many levels of severity and often more patients than can be seen immediately, a practice called triage is a necessary first step to appropriately administering care. As patients enter emergency rooms, a triage nurse assesses and ranks the severity of each injury. Each case is then treated in descending order of severity from the most life-threatening to the least.

With a busy emergency room servicing the community, Roger Williams Medical Center is equipped to handle diverse cases through the use of the latest emergency room equipment and techniques.
