  • Dr. Joseph Tucci, Director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Roger Williams, is principal investigator in a wide variety of national studies relating to new treatments for osteoporosis, Paget's disease of bone, primary hyperparathyroidism, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia.



An Endocrinologist is a physician who is a specialist in endocrine and metabolic disorders with background training in internal medicine. An Endocrinologist cares for patients with hormonal and metabolic disorders and, if in academic medicine, plays an important role in basic and/or clinical research, administration and teaching.

Joseph R. Tucci, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.E. is a Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Brown University School of Medicine. He is Director, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism and Director, Bone and Mineral Unit at the Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence, Rhode Island.

Dr. Tucci received his Bachelor of Arts Degree Cum Laude from Brown University and his Medical Degree from Boston University School of Medicine. Postgraduate training included internship and two years of residency in Internal Medicine at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, three years of fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington D.C., and two years of research fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts.

He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolism. Dr. Tucci is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the Society for Clinical Densitometry. Dr. Tucci is a Fellow of the American College of Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology.

Dr. Tucci has been a principal investigator in more than 35 industrial research studies relating to osteoporosis, Paget's disease of bone, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and primary hyperparathyroidism. He has published 100 medical abstracts and more than 60 medical articles, and several monographs and text chapters. He has lectured locally and nationally on a variety of endocrine topics including osteoporosis, Paget's disease of bone, diabetes mellitus, male hypogonadism, and thyroid and parathyroid disorders.
