CharterCARE Welcomes New Thoracic Surgeon
Mohammad Abdallat, M.D., a fellowship-trained thoracic surgeon, has joined the CharterCARE system. He completed a fellowship in thoracic surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital - Harvard Medical School, and his surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Abdallat is a graduate of University of Jordan School of Medicine in Amman, Jordan.

The Centurion Foundation (Centurion) and Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. (Prospect) announced today they have signed an Asset Purchase Agreement (APA) for Centurion to acquire the CharterCARE Health Partners (CCHP) system from Prospect. Centurion also announced that QHR Health will assist in the transition process and will provide ongoing consulting support to CharterCARE senior management and board of directors.

Roger Williams Cancer Center First in RI to Offer Advanced Therapies for Blood Cancers
The Roger Williams Cancer Center has achieved final approval as a treatment center for the Novartis Pharmaceutical’s CAR-T therapy Kymriah. The Cancer Center is the first and only provider in Rhode Island to offer patients access to this leading treatment for certain types of leukemia and non-Hodgkins lymphoma, both of which are serious blood cancers.

Roger Williams Medical Center Opens Behavioral Health and Substance Use Emergency Treatment Unit
Roger Williams Medical Center has opened Rhode Island’s first completely dedicated emergency treatment unit to treat mental health, drug and alcohol medical emergencies that features private rooms for comfort, safety and privacy. The new 9-bed unit is the second and final phase of the hospital’s $18 million expansion and renovation of its Emergency Department, which treats approximately 25,000 patients each year.

Fatima Hospital Introduces Advanced Visualization Technology for Minimally Invasive Surgery
(North Providence, RI) Surgeons at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital recently became the first in Rhode Island to perform surgeries using advanced visualization technology for laparoscopic procedures. Last month, Dr. Abdul Saied Calvino, MPH, FACS, a surgical oncologist, and Dr. Michael Lin, a general surgeon with minimally invasive training, operated on the first two patients using this new technology which allows surgeons to make better clinical decisions during colon and gallbladder surgeries, and other minimally invasive surgical procedures.

We are pleased to announce that we have opened an additional entrance at the hospital. Patients may how use the Bishop Gelineau Surgical Pavilion entrance on the north side of the hospital to access outpatient services. This entrance is open from 5:30 am to 3:00 pm.
